I filed my taxes electronically in February. I recieved a refund via direct deposit and several weeks later found a mistake that required me to file a 1040X (amendment), and left me owing money back to the IRS. I will owe more than the rebate I'm due. I mailed the 1040X, and the installment plan request on April 13th. My question is, will the IRS recieve these last 2 forms in time to apply my rebate to what I owe? I am due to recieve my rebate on May 9, and it seems that with all the flurry of tax time they might not get my claim processed to see that I actually owe them money. I'm asking because I DO want my rebate to go toward the tax I owe. I know I can always send it right back as payment, I'm just curious.
Thanks in advance!|||Close call. Amended returns take 8 to 12 weeks to process. They may cross in time, or may not.
